Bennett and Trimble were invited by Macquarie University to prepare a concept study for an Innovation Hub to foster industry collaboration from within the surrounding innovation precinct. The Hub was designed as a series of temporary units with a life span of 5 years that could be deployed across the campus on a number of sites in various configurations. It was designed to be extended with different modules creating different research, teaching and learning environments.

 
A series of elements were identified to support a wide range of activities from highly focused individual work to group brainstorming sessions, collaborative meetings, informal presentations and exhibitions. The commission included the selection of a series of sites for further consideration including the partial re-use of existing facilities, carparks and interstitial spaces between existing buildings to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
